What is a Clinical Sexologist?

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines sexual health as “a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality; it is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity. Sexual health requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence. For sexual health to be attained and maintained, the sexual rights of all persons must be respected, protected and fulfilled.”

A clinical sexologist assists individuals and couples to address sexual concerns and improve their sexual health.

Utilising counselling techniques, coaching, psychoeducation and sex-positive education to assist people towards understanding and accepting themselves as sexual beings, and to encourage them toward their sexual goals.

 

As a Clinical Sexologist Ann has extensively studied all aspects of human sexuality and helps navigate people through areas in which they may find themselves stuck, confused, needing more information, or those desiring to have more pleasure.

Ann takes biological, psychological, sociological, and historical factors into consideration when addressing sexual issues and is trauma-informed.

• Disability and/or Age-related specific sexual concerns.
